Yanks Top Mets 6-2 in Subway Series Opener, Rodón Wins 4th Straight

The New York Yankees beat the Mets 6-2 in their Subway Series opener on Friday night. Carlos Rodón won his fourth straight decision, while Paul Goldschmidt had two RBI and Cody Bellinger had three hits. Juan Soto, who signed a record $765 million contract with the Mets earlier this week, was booed by fans but showed respect for the crowd, tipping his helmet to them.

Rodón pitched five innings, allowing one run and two hits, while Jonathan Loáisiga earned his fifth save in six chances after pitching a scoreless sixth. Tylor Megill suffered a season-low 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks.

The win gives the Yankees a 1-0 lead in the series, but the Mets are still within reach. The teams will face off again on Saturday, with Clarke Schmidt starting for the Yankees and Griffin Canning for the Mets.
