Renowned AI expert Yann LeCun, known as one of the “godfathers” of artificial intelligence, is facing a significant shift in his career. After struggling to find an adviser for his Ph.D. thesis in the 1980s due to the lack of interest in machine learning at that time, LeCun is now being sidelined by Meta over their differing views on AI’s future. Despite this, he plans to leave the company and pursue a new startup focused on “world models,” technology that LeCun believes holds more promise for advancing AI than current language models.
