Rapper Yella Beezy has been arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with the 2020 shooting death of fellow rapper MO3. The 33-year-old emcee, born Markies Conway, was apprehended by authorities and booked into the Dallas County Jail on Thursday.
According to a grand jury indictment, Beezy “intentionally and knowingly” took part in MO3’s death by hiring Kewon White to kill him for payment and the promise of remuneration. The indictment alleges that White, who is currently serving a nine-year prison sentence for firearm charges related to the shooting, was paid to carry out the hit.
MO3, 28, was shot and killed during a midday shooting on a Dallas highway in November 2020. The suspect, identified as White, chased MO3, firing multiple shots and striking him before he died from his injuries at an area hospital.
In addition to the murder charge, White also faced charges for firing into a crowded car, which injured an innocent bystander. Beezy’s music career took off in 2017 with the release of his mixtape “Lite Work, Vol. 2,” featuring the hit single “That’s On Me.” He has since collaborated with top hip-hop artists and released several albums, including “Bad Azz Yella Boy” in August 2022.
This is a developing story, and USA TODAY will provide updates as more information becomes available.
