Yemen Rocket Hits Tel Aviv, Injures 16 People

A rocket fired from Yemen hit an area of Tel Aviv overnight, leaving 16 people injured by shattered glass, the Israeli military said on Saturday. The attack came days after Israeli airstrikes on Houthi rebels in Yemen and Gaza.

The Houthis claimed they had aimed a hypersonic ballistic missile at a military target, but Israel’s military is investigating. The attack has raised concerns about the escalation of the region’s conflict.

Thursday’s strikes on Yemen’s Houthi-held capital and port city killed at least nine people. The Houthis have launched over 200 missiles and drones during the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, targeting shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that both sides’ attacks risk further escalation. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes in Gaza have killed dozens of children, with 19 people killed in one strike alone.

The conflict has resulted in over 45,200 Palestinian deaths since October 2023. The Israeli military says it only targets militants, but faces heavy international criticism over the high number of civilian deaths in Gaza.
