Yemen’s Houthis Launch Red Sea Attacks Amid Gaza Tensions

Six crew members have been rescued from a Liberian-flagged cargo ship in the Red Sea after an attack claimed by Yemen’s Houthi rebels, according to the European Union naval force. The vessel, Greek-owned Eternity C, sustained significant damage and lost all propulsion before sinking off Yemen’s port city of Hodeidah.

At least four sailors were killed in the attack, with 15 still missing, while five Filipinos and one Indian were rescued by Operation Aspides. The Houthis say they targeted the ship as part of a campaign to pressure Israel to end its assault on Gaza.

This incident marks a surge in Red Sea attacks after months of calm, potentially signaling a revival of the Houthis’ campaign against Israeli-linked ships. Yemen’s exiled government and the European Union had already blamed the rebels for the attack before the Houthi claim of responsibility.

The US State Department condemned the attack, calling on the Houthis to release any surviving crew members immediately. The incident is the latest in a series of exchanges between Israel and the Houthis, with both sides accusing each other of aggression.
