Yemen’s PM Bin Mubarak Resigns Amid Power Struggle

Yemen’s internationally recognized Prime Minister Ahmad bin Mubarak has announced his resignation, citing inability to exercise full powers due to disputes with the Saudi-backed Presidential Leadership Council (PLC). The decision comes amid escalating tensions between the government and Houthi rebels.

Bin Mubarak had been at odds with PLC leader Rashad al-Alimi over issues including corruption and power struggles. Analysts say his resignation is a positive step towards restoring cohesion in the internationally recognized government, which has struggled to contain the devastating war in Yemen.

The conflict, which began in 2014, has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and triggered a humanitarian crisis. The Houthis have repeatedly targeted Israel and ships in key waterways, sparking international concern.

Bin Mubarak’s resignation comes as the Houthi rebels continue their campaign of missile attacks on Israel, targeting shipping lanes to show solidarity with Palestinians over the war in Gaza.
