Former President Yoon Suk Yeol has once again refused to comply with a court-issued arrest warrant, prompting prosecutors to warn that they will use physical force if they attempt to detain him again. A special counsel team led by Prosecutor Min Joong-ki attempted to bring Yoon in for questioning at the Seoul Detention Center on Friday morning, but he remained defiant and uncooperative.
The team made multiple requests for Yoon’s appearance over several hours, but he refused to leave his detention cell. Despite their initial concerns about safety risks, they warned that future attempts will include physical force. Deputy Special Counsel Oh Jung-hee called on Yoon to cooperate with the investigation, citing his experience as a former prosecutor and president.
Yoon is currently detained at the center following his arrest on July 10 over a separate insurrection case. The special counsel team had initially summoned him for questioning on July 29 but he did not appear or explain his refusal. A court-issued warrant was granted after a second notice, which Yoon ignored, and remains valid until August 7.
This is not the first time Yoon has defied attempts to bring him in for questioning. A separate special counsel team had made three previous failed attempts to physically detain him over the insurrection allegations. Sources indicate that no additional attempt will be made today.
