A chilling text message allegedly sent by Kylee Monteiro, an 18-year-old pregnant Rehoboth teen who went missing two weeks ago, has shed light on the disturbing events leading up to her disappearance. Prosecutors say that before she vanished, Monteiro sent a text message to her sister detailing a violent altercation with her boyfriend, Gregory Groom.
According to authorities, Groom, 22, was arrested in connection with Monteiro’s murder and is being held without bail. The search of his home uncovered human remains consistent with Monteiro’s identity.
Monteiro’s family has expressed relief and closure following the arrest, but also acknowledged the importance of reminding people to check in regularly with others. They organized a candlelit vigil for Kylee’s memory, which will take place on Saturday.
The investigation into Monteiro’s disappearance reveals an increasingly strained relationship between her and Groom, characterized by daily arguments and physical altercations. Authorities stated that Groom initially reported Monteiro missing after an argument but provided inconsistent information about their relationship before his arrest.
Monteiro’s body was allegedly buried on her boyfriend’s 25-acre property after a violent struggle behind a shed. The remains were discovered in a grave approximately 20 yards from where the stabbing occurred, surrounded by brush and cut trees.
The state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to confirm Monteiro’s identity and determine the cause of death. As authorities push for justice, questions remain about how law enforcement handled public updates during the investigation into Monteiro’s disappearance.
