Rapper Young Scooter, who was signed to artists Future and Waka Flocka Flame, has died at the age of 39 on his birthday. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death, stating that he was transported to a hospital after suffering an injury while fleeing from police.
Scooter, born Kenneth Edward Bailey, developed a strong presence in Atlanta rap throughout his career. He released steady mixtape output and collaborated with notable artists such as Gucci Mane and Zaytoven. His debut on the Billboard Hot 100 came in 2018 with a feature on Future’s “Jet Lag” alongside Juice Wrld.
A childhood friend of Future, Scooter connected with him after being released from prison due to his involvement in drug trafficking. He became a consistent presence in Atlanta hip-hop during its commercial boom in the 2010s. Despite not achieving chart success, Scooter remained active in the music scene until his death, releasing his fourteenth project “Trap’s Last Hope” independently just months before.
The cause of death is currently undetermined as an autopsy has not been completed.
