Young Skater Pays Tribute to Parents Who Died in Plane Crash

Maxim Naumov, 23, Honors Parents Who Died in American Airlines-Pilot Helicopter Collision by Performing Heartfelt Figure Skating Routine.

Maxim Naumov, a young figure skater whose parents were among those who died in a tragic plane crash on January 29, paid tribute to them by performing a heartfelt routine at the March 2 Legacy on Ice event. The event aimed to raise money for the families of victims and first responders.

Naumov’s performance, which included spotlights and a solo to “Ave Maria,” was dedicated to his late parents, Evgenia “Zhenya” Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, former World Champions in figure skating. The crowd showed their support with applause and a standing ovation.

Several high-profile skaters participated in the event, including U.S. champion Johnny Weir. He spoke about the impact of the accident on the community, saying that losing such skaters was like losing a generation of dreamers.

Ted Leonsis, head of Monumental Sports & Entertainment, stated that the primary motivation behind the event was to support families who lost loved ones in the crash, including children left without parents. The funds raised will help with college and other expenses for these families.
