YouTube has secured its position at the top of Nielsen’s monthly Gauge report for June, attracting 13.4% of all TV viewers in July. This marks the sixth consecutive month that the free video-sharing site has led the ranking.
While Nielsen only measures viewership on television screens, YouTube’s true proportion is likely higher due to its significant presence on mobile devices. In contrast, Disney and Netflix trailed behind with 9.4% and 8.8% of TV viewership respectively.
Disney took second place, followed closely by Netflix in third position. The Roku Channel made a notable gain, increasing its share from 1.3% to 2.8%. Amazon rounded out the top four, thanks to the success of “The Summer I Turned Pretty” and “Bosch” spinoff “Ballard”.
However, Nielsen warns that trends on the Gauge may shift with the start of the fall TV season, which is expected to bring changes in viewing habits due to sports and network projects.
