Google is testing a video carousel feature within its AI-powered search experience, AI Overviews, on YouTube. The feature allows users to browse relevant videos for queries like “best noise cancelling headphones” or “museums to visit in San Francisco.” This test is part of Google’s ongoing effort to enhance user engagement and provide dynamic search results.
The video carousel is currently being tested with a small group of YouTube Premium members in the US, focusing on English-language queries related to shopping and location-based information. The company has not disclosed further details about the program.
This development marks another step in the AI search race as Google competes with other platforms like Perplexity and OpenAI for user attention. Similar to other AI-driven responses, YouTube’s video carousel aims to bring more contemporaneous answers into its search results. Additionally, Google is testing a dedicated “AI Mode” in Search, which generates full-page AI-powered results in response to user queries.
