YouTube Surpasses TV in US Viewership Amid Surprising Demographics

YouTube dominated US TV viewership in February, outpacing all other media providers. The platform accounted for 11.6% of total TV use, a record high and surpassing its previous best in July 2024. This surge can be attributed to an unexpected demographic – people over 50, who made up about 36% of YouTube’s TV viewing time.

These older viewers outpaced teenagers and adults aged 18-34, accounting for nearly twice the combined percentage. The media distributor rankings only include viewing on TV screens, so it’s unclear how representative these findings are across all devices. Despite this, Fox moved into third place with a record-breaking Super Bowl performance, edging ahead of Netflix and Paramount by 0.1%.
