YSL Defendant Stabbed in Jail Amid Ongoing Trial

A defendant in the YSL gang and racketeering trial, Deamonte Kendrick, was stabbed in jail while awaiting a jury verdict. Kendrick, who raps as Yak Gotti, suffered minor injuries from a sharp object but is “doing really well,” according to his attorney. The incident occurred during a fight at the Fulton County Jail’s south annex, where Kendrick and another detainee were involved.

Kendrick’s co-defendant, Shannon Stillwell, was also stabbed at the jail last year, which delayed the trial. The two men rejected plea deals after weeks of negotiations, choosing not to present evidence or witnesses. Jurors have been deliberating since Tuesday, with several delays, and are set to resume on Tuesday morning.

Weinstein attributed the stabbing to an “improvised shank,” and expressed frustration with the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office for not providing clear answers about the incident. Kendrick is focused on the impending verdict, despite being stabbed, and hopes to be released soon. The trial involves 28 people, including rapper Young Thug, who was freed on probation after pleading guilty to some charges.
