Dragon Quest series creator and Chrono Trigger writer Yuji Horii has seemingly confirmed a long-rumored remake of Chrono Trigger at a Napoli Comicon panel. During the event, Horii told a translator that he knew about a “remake in development,” but was unable to confirm it further due to embarrassment.
Insider-Gaming spotted the incident on Reddit and reported that Horii realized his mistake after being asked by the panel host to reiterate the claim. The next thing the translator said was, “You have heard nothing.”
The revelation comes as Square Enix celebrated the 30th anniversary of Chrono Trigger earlier this year, with the company announcing plans for various projects in connection with the milestone. While Horii’s comments were accidental, they suggest that a remake may be on the horizon.
Fans of the game will likely be relieved to know that a remake is being considered, as Chrono Trigger is widely regarded as one of the best and most influential games in video game history. The fact that Square Enix recognizes the game’s significance could pave the way for a high-quality remake, potentially similar to the treatment given to Dragon Quest III.
