Actor Zachary Levi shared the importance of sharing faith-based stories at an exclusive interview with The Deseret News ahead of the release of his latest project, “The Unbreakable Boy.” The film is based on a true story by Scott LeRette and tells the journey of his struggles as a first-time father to a son diagnosed with autism and a rare brittle bone disease.
Levi said, “I think we all need more hope, we all need more redemption, we all need more unity. I believe that faith-based stories can help us grow and become better versions of ourselves.” He praised the film’s authentic portrayal of families navigating autism, saying it handles the topic beautifully.
The movie is a true story about Scott LeRette’s journey as he surrenders to his lack of control and relies on newfound faith for guidance. Director Jon Gunn, known for films like “Ordinary Angels” and “Jesus Revolution,” teamed up with producers Kevin Downes and Peter Facinelli to adapt the book into a film.
Downes said, “Our goal is to provide audiences with a rush of hope through our faith-based movies.” He noted that leaving out the faith elements would have made the story feel hollow, so they decided to keep it in to convey Scott’s significant journey.
“The Unbreakable Boy” offers a heartwarming true story about family resilience and the power of faith. With Levi’s portrayal of LeRette, the film promises an authentic and touching exploration of autism and parenting challenges.
