Zack Snyder is teaming up with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and Turki Alalshikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, to bring fighter drama “Brawler” to life. The project will be directed by Snyder and co-written with UFC veterans Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad.
The story follows a young fighter from Los Angeles who gets a shot at the UFC championship, battling his inner demons as he fights for redemption. Deborah Snyder and Wesley Coller will produce through Stone Quarry, while Alalshikh and UFC Chief Content Officer Craig Borsari serve as executive producers.
Turki Alalshikh is driving Saudi Arabia’s sports and entertainment strategy, and this film project aligns with his vision. “Behind every great fighter is the story of how they got there,” Snyder said. “UFC is the world leader in combat sports, and I’m honored to be partnering with them to tell this incredible story.”
Alalshikh has also expressed his enthusiasm for the project, praising Snyder’s unique style and humanized portrayal of characters. The partnership marks a significant move towards bringing UFC content to the big screen.
The announcement comes after news that TKO Group had partnered with Alalshikh and Sela, a Saudi national entertainment conglomerate, to establish a new boxing promotion. UFC CEO Dana White has expressed his excitement for the project, saying it’s an “incredibly ambitious” film that will showcase what it takes to become a UFC champion.
The partnership is part of a growing trend towards global content creation, with Snyder and his team producing films through Stone Quarry and Netflix. The project is currently in development, and its release date has not been announced.
