Zak Starkey, drummer for iconic rock band The Who since 1996, has parted ways with the group after a concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall last month. Variety reported that the decision was made due to his performance, which apparently didn’t meet the expectations of the band.
According to a statement from the band, they have “nothing but admiration” for Starkey and wish him well in his future endeavors. The reason for their departure is not explicitly stated, but it’s believed to be related to concerns raised by frontman Roger Daltrey during the concert.
In a recent Instagram post, Starkey hinted at his departure, stating that he had heard from an “inside source” about his exit from the band. The situation was further complicated when Daltrey, reportedly, threatened to bring in a new drummer as part of formal charges against Starkey for overplaying during the concert.
Starkey’s 59-year-old career with The Who is now coming to an end, leaving fans and fellow musicians to wonder what’s next for the talented drummer.
