Zamzam Camp in Sudan Attacked by Paramilitary Forces

Zamzam camp, home to 700,000 people, was attacked by paramilitary forces last week, leaving it “completely destroyed”. The attack has sent thousands fleeing for safety, with many reports of violence and atrocities. The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which denied involvement in the attacks, took control of the camp.

Among those displaced is Fathiya Mohammed, who fled with her child on her back and luggage on her head. She lost her husband during the chaos and faces further hardship as she seeks safety in Tawila. Medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reports tens of thousands of people have fled since the attack, with many seeking medical treatment.

Hospitals in Tawila are struggling to cope with the influx, with over 20,000 people treated for injuries over two days. Reports of violence and torture against civilians are emerging, including allegations by patients that they were attacked while fleeing the camp. The RSF has not commented on these claims.
