Zar Amir to Play Lady Macbeth in RSC’s Interactive Video Game Lili

Iranian actress and director Zar Amir (Holy Spider, Tatami) will play Lady Macbeth in a new interactive video game called *Lili*, produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in collaboration with New York indie studio iNK Stories. Amir’s Paris-based company Alambic Production will co-produce the game.

Set in a modern Iran under surveillance, *Lili* reimagines Shakespeare’s political drama with players making choices that shape Lili’s fate. Macbeth’s witches become hackers and surveillance tools, immersing players in a cyber-thriller experience.

RSC’s Emma Smith described the game as “Shakespearean yet defamiliarized,” highlighting its unique take on themes of ambition and power under tyranny. Co-artistic directors Daniel Evans and Tamara Harvey emphasized how gaming allows storytelling through world exploration and personal communal experiences, centering *Lili* around Lady Macbeth for a radical twist on Shakespeare’s classic.

Amir previously won the Best Actress prize at Cannes for *Holy Spider* and directed sport thriller *Tatami*. iNK Studios is known for *1979 Revolution: Black Friday*, an award-winning photojournalist adventure set during Iran’s revolution.

*Lili* is currently in development and is expected to release this year on multiple platforms.
