China’s Zeekr claims world’s fastest-charging EV battery, capable of charging from 10% to 80% capacity in just 10 minutes and 30 seconds using its ultra-fast charging stations. This beats Tesla’s 15-minute charge, which can cover 175 miles (282 km) for the Model 3. Zeekr’s 2025 007 sedan, set to launch next week, will be the first vehicle to feature this new battery technology, which also performs well in cold temperatures.
Industry experts believe Zeekr’s claims are believable, as Tesla’s charging technology has not been industry-leading for some time. The competition in China is fierce, with brands like BYD prioritizing scale and sales, while others like Zeekr focus on maximizing the charging experience. As a vertically integrated business, Zeekr’s parent company Geely has the resources to invest in innovative technologies.
Zeekr recently listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange, marking the first major US market debut by a Chinese company since 2021. Despite this, the shares are currently trading 27% below their initial public offering (IPO) price, due in part to the Biden administration’s announcement of tariff hikes on Chinese-made electric cars and other goods.
