Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has advocated for regime change in Russia during a virtual event with Finland. He argued that Russia will continue to destabilize neighboring countries even after the war in Ukraine ends, making regime change in Moscow the only lasting solution.
Zelensky stated that if the world doesn’t aim to change the Russian regime, Moscow will try to destabilize neighboring countries after the war ends. He also emphasized that since Russia started the invasion of Ukraine, it should be coerced into ending it.
The Ukrainian president suggested confiscating Russia’s frozen assets in the West instead of just holding onto them as a way to coerce Russia into stopping the invasion. Zelensky argued that this would block Russia’s war machine and use the stolen wealth from corruption to defend against Russian aggression.
While the West has been using the proceeds of over $300 billion of frozen Russian assets to finance Ukraine’s defense and recovery efforts, full confiscation remains a taboo subject due to concerns about European financial stability.
