Zohran Mamdani is a winning candidate for the Democratic nomination in New York City. Despite his popularity among voters, top Democratic leaders have yet to endorse him.
According to recent polls, 46% of likely voters plan to choose Mamdani on Election Day. His likability and stances on key issues are appealing to many voters, with 52% having a favorable view of him. A majority also believe he has good character and can address affordability and housing.
Mamdani’s support is growing among some Democrats, who recognize his winning platform. Senator Bernie Sanders has expressed enthusiasm for Mamdani, while Representatives Pat Ryan and Ritchie Torres have endorsed him.
However, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries still haven’t endorsed Mamdani. If they don’t throw their support behind the candidate, Democrats risk losing momentum and hurting their chances in 2026.
