Framework Computer has temporarily discontinued its base models of upgradable laptops in the US due to Trump’s tariffs on Taiwan. The company cited that with a 10% tariff, it would have to sell the lowest-end laptops at a loss.
The US website now shows prices starting at $1,099 for AMD and $1,399 for Intel, compared to previously starting at $899 and $999, respectively. Framework’s move is seen as a sign of how Trump’s tariffs will affect the PC industry.
Other consumer goods makers are also delisting lower-priced products in response to the tariffs, according to the company. However, larger PC vendors such as Dell and HP have remained quiet on the potential impact.
Smaller boutique shops and analysts predict price hikes due to tariff rates ranging from 32% (Taiwan) to 49% (Cambodia). Nintendo has delayed preorders for its Switch 2 in the US to assess the tariff impact.
