Former middleweight and super-middleweight world champion Chris Eubank Sr has revealed how former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson swiftly rejected his offer of an exhibition fight in 2000. Eubank Sr, who retired from the sport in 1998 after a defeat to Joe Calzaghe, was approached by Tyson about a potential exhibition clash, only to be told with six words: “Come on man, you’re my friend.”
Eubank Sr said he had been thinking of money and was “trapped in the game” when he made the offer. He regretted not being able to break free from that mindset at the time. The two boxing legends have since spoken about their past interactions, with Tyson having recently stepped back into the spotlight for an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.
Tyson has also reflected on his recent fight against Jake Paul, which he lost comfortably on points. Despite the loss, Tyson expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete again and to see his children in the ring. His recent comeback was seen as a surprising move by many in the boxing world.
