Elderly Woman Brutally Attacked on Boston Bus Amid Public Transit Safety Concerns

A 68-year-old woman was violently attacked by a suspect, Luz Pineda, while riding a bus in Boston. The incident occurred on September 8 at around 1 pm near Fenway Park. Bystander video shows the elderly woman being shoved off the bus and slammed to the ground. Pineda can be seen yelling at the victim before throwing her shopping cart off the bus.

The MBTA Transit Police have taken swift action, identifying Pineda as the suspect and taking her into custody on Wednesday. The police are urging the public’s help in identifying Pineda, who was with an infant at the time of the attack.

Police say the victim sustained injuries during the attack but have not provided an update on her condition. The incident has sparked concerns about public transit safety, particularly after a similar attack occurred just weeks ago on a North Carolina light-rail train.

In Charlotte, North Carolina, a 23-year-old woman named Iryna Zarutska was killed while commuting home from work last month. The suspect, Decarlos Brown Jr., allegedly stabbed her three times with a folding knife.

The incident has led to increased calls for improved public transit safety measures, including increased security presence and better surveillance systems. Boston Mayor Phillip Eng has vowed to ensure the city’s transportation system is safe, stating that “safety will always be at the forefront of everything we do.”
