Temple Israel Suspect Bought Fireworks Just Days Before Attack

Ayman Ghazali, the suspect who drove a truck into a synagogue in Michigan on March 12, spent over $2,000 on fireworks just two days earlier at a Livonia store. The purchases included products called “da bomb” and “military demolition,” which Ghazali claimed were for an Eid holiday celebration.

Ghazali bought items that he likely thought were more powerful than they were, including a roll of firecrackers that would result in small barrages instead of a mass detonation. He also purchased nine-shot finale racks with display-level features, but fortunately, the fireworks were not commercial grade, which would have made the situation much worse.

The FBI has not shared a motive for the attack, but several sources suggest that Ghazali’s relatives recently died in an Israeli strike in Lebanon. The firework store where Ghazali made the purchase said it is saddened by the situation and wants to associate with joy rather than hate. However, they face challenges in preventing similar incidents in the future.

Investigation into Ghazali’s background is ongoing, but no motive has been confirmed yet.
