“Australian Birth Keeper’s Services Restricted for 3 Months”

A self-described “birth keeper” from Melbourne, Emily Lal, has had her prohibition from providing health services extended by three months due to an ongoing investigation into the death of Stacey Warnecke.

Stacey Warnecke died after suffering a postpartum haemorrhage during a free birth in September last year. The Health Complaints Commissioner of Victoria issued an interim order, prohibiting Lal from advertising or providing health services until July 1st.

The coronial inquest revealed Warnecke paid $6,000 to Lal for her services during pregnancy. Evidence showed Warnecke experienced significant blood loss but refused medical help twice.

Lal’s previous orders were issued due to concerns over her lack of medical qualifications and facilitating home births posing risks to mothers and infants. The investigation continues to explore freebirth practices and unregulated birth keepers’ roles.
