Apple to Discontinue AirPort Utility App in iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate

Apple is set to remove its AirPort Utility app from the App Store in the near future, marking the end of support for older routers like AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, and AirPort Time Capsule.

In the latest beta release, iOS 27, users can no longer download the app, but existing downloads will still be available. Those who have already downloaded it can re-download it if needed. However, using the app on newer devices with iOS 27 or later is not guaranteed to work.

The same fate awaits AirPort Utility on new macOS installations. Existing users will continue to use the app after updating to macOS Golden Gate, but it’s uncertain whether it’ll still function correctly.

AirPort Utility helps manage AirPort base stations, allowing users to configure and control them. With Apple discontinuing its router lineup in 2018, the app has kept older routers supported – until now.

The demise of AirPort Time Capsule support with macOS Golden Gate means Macs won’t be able to use Time Machine backups with it anymore. This signals that Apple won’t provide updates for users holding onto their outdated devices.
